The Harris County Flood Control District works year-round to provide flood damage reduction projects that work, with appropriate regard for community and natural values. The Flood Control District accomplishes its mission by devising flood damage reduction plans, implementing the plans and maintaining the infrastructure. In addition, the Flood Control District has a team of dedicated personnel that work during severe weather events to advise local officials and the public of potential flooding. It also operates and mainains the Harris County Flood Warning System—a network of 165 rainfall and stream level gauges across Harris County that monitor rainfall amounts and water levels in the bayous in 22 watersheds. There are many people working to keep you informed and safe before, during and after a storm.
